T.J. Anderson

Composer T. J. (Thomas Jefferson) Anderson was born on this day in 1928 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Anderson received a Ph.D. in composition from the University of Iowa in 1958, and was the composer in residence at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 1968 to 1971. He is now the Austin Fletcher Professor of Music Emeritus at Tufts University, where he retired in 1990. He has written commissioned works for the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company and cellist Yo Yo Ma. Anderson’s complete oeuvre includes over 80 compositions, including operas, symphonies, choral pieces, chamber music, and works for wind band.
