With our ever-expanding resources, MBC aims to spread awareness of and access to music by Black composers to children and adults alike!
Our Coloring Book of Black Composers includes illustrations by artist and violinist Sho-mei Pelletier of 40 of the most important and fascinating composers who are featured in MBC’s music collections. We also have created a Black Classical Composers Timeline Poster with the help of the Sphinx Organization.
The Digital Resources for MBC’s Instrument Volumes include recordings (audio and video examples) for each published piece to help students learn to play the music. There are also informational resources that expand on the feature articles and role models presented in the books, as well as resources for designing educational presentations about Black composers.
Other resources include a Living Composers Directory, a list of Children’s Books about Black classical music making, a Bibliography full of diverse print resources about Black composers throughout history, a Discography of single-composer collections and multiple-composer compilations, a list of Podcasts and Radio Programs, and a Blog that details MBC’s on-going activities and reports stories about Black composers of yesterday and today!
