Repertoire for Orchestra
Curated lists of orchestral pieces by African Diasporic composers have been compiled by the African Diasporic Music Project (ADMP).
These lists were created by request after ADMP directors Louise Toppin and James Blachly presented at the National Conference of the League of American Orchestras 2022 in Los Angeles, CA. Symphony leaders at the conference requested suggestions to help them thoughtfully program more diverse repertoire into their seasons. The lists contain the 10+ selections of historic and new composers suggested by 9 prominent conductors/arts administrators.
The lists are not meant to be exhaustive or exclusionary, but merely some personal suggestions of pieces each contributor has programmed or enjoyed, and that were well received by audiences.
